Richard Fontana
Counsel, Software Freedom Law Center.

Richard E. Fontana is an attorney at the Software Freedom Law Center, where his practice focuses on matters relating to the drafting of version 3 of the GNU General Public License. He has had several years of experience counseling clients on various aspects of intellectual property law, most recently, prior to joining the SFLC, as an associate at the law firm of Darby & Darby in Seattle and New York. Earlier in his career he was an associate in the litigation department of Rogers & Wells (now Clifford Chance). Richard graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was an editor of the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform. He holds a bachelor's degree in history from Wesleyan University and a master's degree in computer science from Yale University. He is admitted to practice in New York and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
