CTO, Backcountry.com
.
Dave Jenkins, 37, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, found that losing Japanese tourists that he was supposed to be guiding was the perfect occupation to have while putting himself through graduate school at Brigham Young University. A ski guide at Snowbird by winter and a trail guide in Zion by summer, Dave's love for travel and adventure grew tremendously during his "educational" years.
Upon graduating he built an internet design studio during in the dot-com glory days. When the glory lost its luster, he found working as a Consultant for Red Hat Software a great fit for mixing his love of adventure with his passion for technology. Over 3 years he bounced around through 11 different countries utilizing 4 different languages, most recently working in Japan and Korea.
Dave first came to Backcountry.com as a consultant in 2001, promising the moon. Little did he expect the company to call his bluff three years later and bring him on as the CTO.
Dave enjoys hiking, waterskiing, skiing, and recently took up trekking, as he just returned from a trip exploring the Japanese Alps. When asked where home is, Dave will tell you ""The desert, because it is the only place you can really think."
