The Mobile Linux Conference
 Tuesday, August 5 - Thursday, August 7, 2008

During the last five years, Linux has made strong inroads into the mobile handset marketplace, as an embedded OS and as a platform for innovation.  Today, on high-end "smart phones" and increasingly on mid-tier "feature phones", Linux helps handset OEMs bring new intelligent devices to market faster and more cost-effectively.

The Mobile Linux Conference at LinuxWorld will not merely tout this progress, but explore how Linux-based platforms really work.   The conference will offer developers insight into the technical capabilities of mobile Linux, avenues for creating and customizing mobile system software, and building applications on Linux-based mobile phones and phone "stacks".

Mobile Linux Conference tracks will also detail technical and market challenges facing Linux deployment in mobile, at each stage of the mobile ecosystem, from chipmakers to OSVs to handset OEMs to operators and ISVs.  Key themes will include the intersection of community, consortia and commercial concerns, and the creation and deployment of software for and by each.

 Mobile Linux Conference Tracks

Mobile Linux Platforms
Linux in mobile telephony is today a lot more than just a kernel, device drivers and libraries.  The Platforms Track will explore the evolution and diversity of Mobile Linux, addressing both commercial and community-based approaches.  Presentations will examine platform architectures and underlying enabling technologies (UI and multimedia frameworks, multicore support, etc.), and encompass efforts to unify and standardize the mobile Linux landscape.

Building Mobile Linux Applications
The quantity and quality of available applications for Linux-based mobile devices will determine not just the viability of each device but the success of the entire mobile Linux market.  This track will examine how OEMs, operators, ISVs and individual developers create applications for Linux-based mobile devices today, and how they are likely to do so on the next generation of mobile Linux platforms.  It will include presentations on both native Linux application paradigms as well as using Java, web, scripting and other development approaches. The track will also highlight hot topics like device openness, communities and operator/OEM developer programs, security and application signing, and end-to-end applications development.

Embedded Linux
The Embedded Linux Track at LinuxWorld explores how Linux enables applications across the gamut of intelligent devices, large and small, tethered and wireless, COTS and custom. Presentations and panels will address topics as diverse as development and life-cycles of Linux-based devices, user interfaces, embedded virtualization and other enabling technologies, and case studies from key applications areas.

 ACCESS Developer Day

Tuesday, August 5

Learn from ACCESS how to build applications for the ACCESS Linux Platform using open source tools like the Eclipse IDE and Glade UI designer. These hands-on sessions prepare you to take advantage of platform features and mobile market opportunities. Linux is now mobile!

Session 1:     10:15 – 11:15
ALP Development Technologies and ALP Overview

This session presents an architectural overview of the ACCESS Linux Platform (ALP) and its support for a variety of development technologies including Java, Garnet OS (also known as Palm OS), and Web 2.0.

Session 2:     11:30 – 12:30
Development Tools for Native Apps

This hands-on introduction to the ACCESS Development Suite, toolset for building native ALP applications, will guide attendees through the simple steps of building a native application for the ACCESS Linux Platform. Getting up and developing could never be easier with integrated debugging against the built-in simulator.

Lunchtime Lab:     11:30 – 12:30
Testing lab: Garnet OS/Java/ALP apps

For those developers with existing Garnet OS (previously known as Palm OS), Java, and Web applications. This is an opportunity for developers to test their existing applications on ALP enabled environments. It will also give them the opportunity to show-off their applications for consideration for inclusion in our application store and part of the ADN Elite program.

Keynote:     1:30 - 2:00
ACCESS Developer Business Opportunities

Learn about the business and partnership opportunities with ACCESS and the opportunities for those of you building compelling native applications for ALP.

Session 3:     3:00 - 4:00
Building an ALP Native App

This hands-on session uses the ACCESS Development Suite for a better understanding of what it takes to build an ALP application.

Session 4:     4:15 - 5:15
Advanced ALP Programming with Hiker

A deeper dive into fully integrated ALP application development in this hands-on session will leverage the features of the open source Hiker components for tighter application integration into the underlying ALP environment.
