President and Chief Executive Officer-Elect, CA, Inc.
John Swainson is president and chief executive officer-elect of CA and serves on the company’s Board of Directors.
John is a 26 year IBM and industry veteran. Most recently, John was vice president of worldwide sales for IBM’s Software Group, responsible for selling IBM’s diverse line of software products through multiple channels. Prior to that, he was general manager of the Application Integration and Middleware division, IBM’s largest software group, a division he started in 1997. In this position, he and his team developed, marketed and launched the highly successful WebSphere family of middleware products.
John joined IBM in 1978 in Vancouver, Canada, as a systems engineer and held a variety of sales, marketing, and development positions, including vice president of Application Development Solutions and director of the IBM Toronto Laboratory. In January 1997, he moved to the United States to become the general manager of IBM's Application Development Tools group.
John was a member of the IBM Worldwide Management Council, IBM’s Strategy Team and Senior Management Team and on the Board of Governors for the IBM Academy of Technology.
John holds a bachelor of applied science degree in engineering from the University of British Columbia.
