With Linux environments becoming increasingly complex and scaling to larger configurations, log files are an important part of managing IT infrastructure. This session will teach attendees why log files are important, how to get started understanding logs, common sources of log information in a Linux environment, how to managing a log infrastructure and the benefits of log files in troubleshooting systems and applications. Four hands on labs will guide participants through creating, customizing, understanding and troubleshooting with log files from various systems including syslog, Apache, PHP, J2EE, MySQL, Sendmail, IMAP and Procmail.
