The Convergence of OSS and SaaS: The Business Model of the Future
05/22/2007, 10:30 AM - 11:20 AM

Speaker:
William A Soward, President & CEO, Adaptive Planning.

Two of the most powerful forces shaping enterprise software today are open source software (OSS) and software as a service (SaaS). While the two have historically been seen as separate, parallel trends, they are now converging into a single, powerful "OSS + SaaS" model that is poised to become the business model of the future for enterprise software companies. Bill Soward, CEO of Adaptive Planning, will present the emerging OSS + SaaS model using his company as a case study. Adaptive Planning was founded in 2003 as a SaaS provider of business performance management (budgeting, forecasting, and reporting) solutions. The company launched a successful open source initiative in 2006 that supports and extends the company's SaaS business. Bill will review how the company navigated the transition, the strategies and techniques each organization (Development, Marketing, Sales, Support, etc.) uses to capitalize on the model, and the results to-date. In particular, Bill will focus on how the powerful OSS + SaaS model enables companies to:
»  Scale rapidly
»  Use capital efficiently
»  Deliver high-quality, disruptively low TCO solutions to customers
»  Create a valuable franchise, with customer lifetime value that exceeds marginal customer acquisition cost by 10X or more
